Bealtaine (May Day) is almost here!
Do you have any fun plans?
I’m going to try to take a few days off work. I would love to work outside and plant a bit more. I built a flower bed last weekend. Maybe go to the nursery and get a couple new flowering shrubs that attract pollinators. Just take time to breathe, you know? I have been struggling a bit. I would love to feel like myself again.
Do you have big plans?
Spending a lot of time outside sounds nice – that’s probably what I’ll be doing to, weather permitting. It’s supposed to be stormy for the next week or so
Having that time to breathe is really important! I hope you do get to spend that time outside. I find that for me, spending even a few minutes outside every day really helps boost my mental health and gives me time to pause. I try to go outside every day without my phone and just sit in the sun for a minute.
I’d like to have a fire but all my firewood is wet now – I don’t have a shed or anything yet to keep it dry when it rains. I’m having top soil delivered today so I can fill all of my garden beds that have been sitting empty for almost a year so maybe I’ll just get to plant some things, take a swim, and bake a cake.
I saw the topsoil! That’s so exciting. What do you intend to plant?
Right now I’ve got some live plants already. I have some bell peppers, kale, romaine lettuce, blackberries, tomatoes, dill, jalapenos, banana peppers…and I’m probably missing something.
We also got some seeds to start - and I think we’re probably late - but some different melons, spinach, okra, cucumbers, squashes. So many things! That’s our project for Sunday, weather permitting. It’s been stormy here the last few days. Our neighbor’s tree took out part of our fence last night.
They’re just like puzzle pieces that fit together but I think the top piece that holds them all together is broken. I can’t lift the branch so I have to wait to see the damage
Oh, no! I’m so sorry that happened. I hope that the neighbor or insurance will cover the damage.
I’m sure it’ll be okay. When we first moved in here, I was really irritated about the type of fencing we have to have. There’s a specific material that it has to be made of and whatnot – perks of HOA stuff, I guess. I don’t like that it’s basically a thick plastic, but when things like this happen I understand a bit more why these types of fences are preferred. They’re easier to maintain and they slide together and come apart easily. It’s probably not too bad under the branch and if it was a wooden fence, the damage would be worse.
It’s all fixed now! The tree just knocked everything off and didn’t actually damage anything – it went together super easily and is back the way it should be!
Yay! That’s wonderful news!
