My sister-in-law and I went to our first drum circle this past weekend. It’s not something I’ve ever been to before but it’s definitely something I plan on doing again! I really enjoy the sound of drumming and the environment there was just amazing. Here are a few pictures I took!
They do a drum circle on the first Saturday of every month and next month we’re going to take the kids!
Once the fire started and everyone really started getting into the drumming, it was very easy to just sit back and enjoy the sounds around me. We don’t have drums – and I’m not a percussionist at all lol – but the sound of the drumming, the fire, and everyone around us dancing and having a good time was something I definitely want to experience again.
They have one on the first Saturday of every month and we plan on going back! Next time we’re taking the kids we weren’t sure what it was going to be like, the environment, etc. so we didn’t take them the first time.
I haven’t been back yet. I was going with my sister-in-law but then we had a falling out over personal things, gas prices went way up, and this is an hour away from me. One day I’ll be back! I’m just not sure when.
We go, when we can, to an intertribal drum circle and I LOVE it! The connection I feel to Grandmother (that’s the name of the drum), and her heartbeat… it’s indescribable. I especially appreciate that we sing songs in different languages, from English to Cherokee to Lakota. I always feel so grounded after going, and I am so grateful for the connection being at Grandmother and singing traditional songs brings me with my ancestors. I’ve also got a personal hand drum that my husband made for me. I don’t use it often, and I haven’t yet named my drum. The energy that comes from my drum tho is amazing.
I haven’t been back yet and I don’t know if I’ll make it back before we end up moving. I hope so, but it doesn’t look like we’ll get out there. I think, once we move, I’ll be able to get back to something like that.
This sounds so beautiful I can imagine that feeling of connection is amazing!
I love that! I’ve never been to a drum circle, but I started playing the bodhran a number of years ago, and I absolutely get carried away by the rhythm.
